Shell Fischer is an independent journalist and editor whose work has been read on National Public Radio's Morning Edition and published in numerous national magazines. She edits both fiction and non-fiction, and writes frequently about yoga, meditation, literature, the arts, women’s issues, and other topics that interest her, especially those with unique and intriguing narratives.
By way of background, Shell holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Naropa University and a BA in Journalism from Michigan State University. Prior to working full-time on her fiction, she wrote as an award-winning journalist for almost a decade, penning hundreds of feature stories as a staff reporter for newspapers throughout the country.
After completing her first novel “The Joy of Mom” about the Sexual Revolution as seen through the eyes of a 10-year-old girl (the first chapter won the 2009 Bronx Council on the Arts Chapter One Award, and was a finalist for the 2010 Summer Literary Seminars Unified Literary Contest and the 2008 American Short Fiction Short Story Award), Shell turned her energy toward freelance writing and editing, marrying her creative writing talents with her reporting skills.
